Week 7 - The struggles by Abby

My stomach lurched as the test paper was laid out in front of me; I widened my eyes as the questions looked like they were gibberish. I looked around trying to read other students expressions; but their faces were stiff, either they knew this, or they didn’t. My hands were shaking, I didn’t have any idea what to do. Picking up my pencil I read the questions carefully; trying to answer them, but it wasn’t working very well. After a few minutes; I handed my sheet in, I hope my brain has worked.
The next day our results came; I got an average, and I thought “well what a start.”

Week 7 - The hardest run by Mac

I was winning my 100 metre race in the olympics against Usain Bolt, but I turned to see him beside me and I thought “well what a start” ,there was 75 metres to go and we were neck and neck for a lot of it till the 25 metre mark when he just bolted straight past me at pace I will never reach even in my dreams and he won the race by 3 seconds faster than anyone else but at the end he said that it was the hardest race he had ever ran.

Week 7 - the big race by Jasmine

3,2,1 go the clappers went and I began to ran. I was was in the school cross country and had been training since the start of the year and now it was july. As I jumped over a creek I thought to myself I might actually have a chance of winning this year because there was nobody in sight so I must be at the front. I whizzed round corners and jumped over little creeks but finally I sore the finish line and I couldn't see any other people from my race as I sprinted to the finish everyone was clapping and cheering, the lady gave me a block with the number 1 on it I was so happy I had actually come first for once.

Week 7 - the Journey by Danny

I was anxious, My parents, one of my younger brothers and I were sitting in the domestic terminal of JFK airport in New York, while my 6 year old brother, Will was playing in the gaming arcade.
“All passengers on flight 168 to London please make your way to gate 7”.
” Will” Mum called out, “ It's time to board the airplane”. Will was scared slightly, while his brother Josh had been on one for a school trip, Will had never set foot inside an airplane.

Will was just getting used to the plane when the speakers crackled to life.

“Sorry to bother any passengers but we have just had a bomb warning and we will need to search all passengers and their luggage,  and I thought,”well what a start”.

Week 7 - A New Place by Sophia

I was feeling anxious being so high in the sky. I had never flown on an airplane before and my first time was to move to a different country. I had lived in New Zealand my whole life, but my mum got a job in America, so I was on my way across the globe. I mean sure it's sad leaving school and all but it isn't that bad because I didn't really have many friends. Once we reached the airport I was rushed to and fro. I fell to the ground and smashed my face onto the cold concrete floor and broke my nose. I thought to myself “what a start”.

Week 7 - A Bad Start by Zoe

Whilst in our primary schooling years  the thought of beginning intermediate school is sometimes overbearing, although for most of us, we remember the time fondly and look back on the time when it just all seemed like a big adventure.  For me coming back as a teacher nothing much changed.

After the first bell had rung I watched students gradually filtre into the  room.  As they began to take their seats, I sensed a strange mood in the atmosphere.  I gazed around the room, every child was glued to their cell phone only occasionally glancing up at the slightest noise.  I just sighed and I thought “ well what a start”.

Week 7 - First Job by Charlotte

As I walk into the office building I am politely greeted by the doorman who shows me to the main office where I will be getting interviewed for a job I have applied for. Beauty and makeup is what I am applying for. When I enter the room I see a stiff looking lady sitting wide eyed in a black leather chair behind a timber desk. I sit down on the stool in front of the desk and the interview begins. When I leave the building I am bursting with happiness because I got my first job in the makeup department! And I thought “well what a start”....

Week 7 - Who are you? by Ruby

She glared at me from across the hall as I searched for my friends. They were sitting down in the fourth row.  As I made  my way down the aisle I could feel her eyes burning into the back of my neck. I expected her to do this, especially after what I did to her. When I finally made my way to the fourth row my once laughing friends were dead silent staring up at me, as if I was an alien. Cautiously I sat down next to them. “H-Hey guys wh-what’s up” I stuttered nervously not daring to look them in the eyes. They had all heard about what happened, the whole neighbourhood heard. “Who are you?” Joe asked a deadly look on his face. I sunk in my seat and looked over to the stage and thought “Well what a start.”

It was Guy Forks day, it was one of my favourite days of the year and Now it’s not. It started with a big bang, then a burst of colours and I thought wow, what a start. I bursted into tears. It stung like a billion bee stings. Now all that’s left of it is scars and bad memories.

As they were running past they shoved me into a teacher coming out of the staff room, and I thought “well... What a start.” Walking to class looking like a scared rabbit I just happened to walk into the wrong one. Everyone laughed as I walked out red and embarrassed. I dropped my books, walked into the wrong class again and walked into another couple of teachers. Could this day get any worse?!

I decided to draw 3D picture of a modern city with some palm trees on the outskirts of the road. Some buildings were tall and some were small. After I had done the pencil out line I decided to add some colour. I was supposed to grab the black but I grabbed the navy blue instead. I thought to myself well that's a start…

Week 6 - The Fire By Matthew

Superman should have shown up by now, an apartment building was blazing with fire coming out of every window and door and families were trapped inside screaming for help. Surely with his super hearing he would have heard the screams and the fire and be on his way now. Then out of sky he appeared, everyone cheered as he flew into the building then for 10 seconds no one came out of the building then BOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM! The Entire building collapsed and exploded knocking everyone to the ground. I woke up surrounded by the fire and spotted superman gazing into space. He hadn’t saved anyone he had failed then he flew away and was never seen again.

Week 6 - The swimming race by Sophia

I heard short spouts of cheering as I went under and above the water. I was on my final length of the breaststroke swimming race for New Zealand 14 - 16 years finals. I was coming first, I couldn't believe it! I got distracted by a girl bouncing a ball and as my head submerged under the icy waters for what felt like the fifteen millionth time, BUT the seal of my lips wasn’t tight enough! I began to choke as chlorinated water gushed down my throat! As I flailed frantically, I suddenly began to swallow more and more of the liquid. I made my way to the surface, I realised I was miles behind everyone else and that the race was over. I had come last.

Week 6 - The cricket Game by Luke

It was the semi-final of the cricket world cup….
I had been waiting in the rain for 1 hour.  The cricket players finally came out at 5pm.  The teams were NZL vs AUS.  They only had 20 overs each to play.  Australia batted first and posted 160-6 at the end of their 20 overs.  New Zealand came out and batted.  Martin Guptill went,  Kane Williamson went. And suddenly NZ were 120 - 7 with 2 overs left.  Luke Ronchi came out and smashed 5 sixes in 1 over, which put NZ 150 - 7.  Then with 4 balls to go Ronchi smashed a six. The next ball he got out.  Then Grant Elliott came out and with 1 ball left hit a six. We posted 162-7 which meant we won the semi !! Our fans went ballistic.

Week 6 - the race by Michaela

Sarah ran faster and faster feeling good as she pasted people towards the front of the race. Soon Sarah was in first place running hard with no signs of giving up. The worst thing in a race is tripping up in front of EVERYBODY, but that is exactly what happened to Sarah. She flew through the air and landed with a big thud. All the other participants raced past Sarah like nothing was there, but a girl stopped, helped Sarah up and walked her to the finish line. Everyone cheered for Sarah and the girl, and they each got a prize. :)

Week 6 - the Show by Lucy

I couldn’t wait until tonight, I’d been waiting for months to see my favourite band play in concert. It was all silent until the stage lights turned and the crowd began to scream. The screaming was echoing in my head and it was giving me a headache. I don’t know why everyone was screaming. Nobody was even on the stage. I couldn’t see over anybody’s head and I was standing on my tippy toes trying to see. I tried to make my way to the front, but I got pushed to the ground. Suddenly a person came out on stage and the music started to play. Four girls jumped up on stage and the security guard came and took them out of the building. After that the show was cancelled. I was so disappointed

Week 6 - The most intense minutes by Sam Ctr

The most intense three minutes of my life!  32-30 to them!

I hit so hard in the tackle that the ball ended up in my arms!

Ten seconds to go I was sprinting (like Usain Bolt), the posts were just in front of me! In my head I could hear people cheering, the opposition team sobbing, the Powerade bucket being kicked over.

Then….

It all went wrong. I was running closer to the sideline.  I looked over my shoulder it was the #15!! One of the fittest and fastest players in the team!  The hooter sounded and I was laying on the sideline.

The World Cup slipped through my hands….

Week 6 - Asleep? by Zoe

As I hesitantly made my way towards the back of the bus I was caught unaware and without warning I was stampeded by a bustle of  frantic students.  By the time I found my bearings I realized that I was stuck sitting crammed right up against the window, in the middle of all the confusion.  All my energy had been drained and I felt as if I was paralyzed. Amongst the bustle of the cramped bus ride and shouting no one seemed to mind leaving me alone.  Most of them were so caught up in their mindless chatter that they didn’t even notice me sitting in silence. Not they would have cared anyway.

WEek 6 - Bugatti by Danny

drifted around the final bend of the lap and powered into the straight. I saw a sign saying two more laps as I approached the line, I could tell that the crowd were screaming, but I couldn't hear them over my huge sixteen cylinder quad turbocharged engine with nearly 1500 horsepower.

It was the last lap I downshifted as I took the first corner and accelerated out of it. I was on another straight i changed back into seventh gear and floored the accelerator I went past 200 km then 300 speedometer was still climbing as I overtook the driver in first place with ease, I Then realised that the finish line was right in front of me. Week 6 - The biggest thing in my life by Jasmine

I was standing on the stage. Everyone was clapping and cheering. It was all because I had decided to do the biggest thing in my life. Sing opera to millions of people, not to mention, the Queen, the most important person in the world. Well, that's my opinion anyway. For a 10 year old to get up and sing opera, that’s pretty good, don't you think? I have to go now. My eardrums are about to explode because of all the clapping. Even though it was all because of me, I think I would rather save my ear drums.

Week 6 - Make America hare again by Abby

My heart races as the whispers of the audience grow louder. Staring down at my legs, I clench my fists, I was tense; this countries LIFE was on the line. It all depended on people who were stupid, and who had common sense. I sank in my chair with fingers, toes, eyes, legs-
EVERYTHING was crossed.
Suddenly a man appeared on stage;
“We have the results.”
A formal man stood on stage with a envelope.
“The President of The United States of America is…”
The audience leaned forward impatiently.
“Donald-”
“Wait, nope.”
“HILLARY CLINTON!!”
The whole audience roared with cheers; some in tears.
Thank God for people with common sense.

As I poked the pond the water level started going down. I looked back the flamingo wasn’t there, I looked back at the pond and it was pink. I slowly turned back and started running underneath the ground I hear water rushing then I woke in bed thinking that was an extraordinary dream.

Week 5 - The Zoo by Caleb

It was a boring Sunday, again and there was nothing to do but then. My sister wanted to go to the Zoo. Mum and Dad said yes even though I didn't want to go. We hoped in the car and of course my sister had got her dumb barbie song disc in.

We finally got there and my sister Holly was running around trying to touch all the animals until she caught. But then I saw an extraordinarily flamingo, his neck was longer than his legs but his head still stayed upright. But then I realized it was black until my sister poked it and it ran away. Well that was the end of that.

Week 5 - Crate by Zoe

Early morning brume blanketed the marina in a white veil.  Something drew my gaze towards a pile of decayed creates, as I edged closer I began to hear a faint  squawking  noise that seemed be coming from one of the crates.  I bent over and poked around underneath  the crates.  Suddenly I found myself staring at a decrepit flamingo drenched in septic black liquid, a single tear rolled down my cheek, no creature, not even a flamingo should be treated like that. People are capable of extraordinary things but have we forgotten what it is to be human?

Week 5 - the never ending wall by Sophia

I was wearing my favorite top. It had a pink flamingo wearing black sunglasses on it. I ran through the large forest only to find myself confronted with a gargantuan brick wall. It seemed to go on for miles every way. I couldn’t see the top, start or end. It was almost like it never ended. It was extraordinary. I noticed a small gelatinous creature pulsating rapidly to the right of me on the leafy terrain. I grabbed a stick and poked it making it ooze green pus. I used the same stick to flip it upside down and to my surprise, underneath, I saw a colossal mouth. As I gazed in wide eyed wonder the grizzly mouth opened wide and sucked me into the never ending void.

Week 5 - The five words by Sam Ctr

Thursday morning I was woken up by my annoying Mother. I ducked underneath my warm blankets. Suddenly I felt an amazingly sharp pain in my torso.  It felt like I was getting poked by a knife but it was my Mother’s long rotten fingernails.

I got up and began walking to school. I was thinking of a subject for an intelligent speech to help me win the competition.  I walked by my favourite spot with extraordinary flamingos  but this time it was different. This time it had a gooey, thick, black oil all over the grass and the flamingos.

That's when I knew the subject for my speech… Pollution.
